At Home with Replicants: The Architecture of Blade Runner
The Tyrell Headquarters seem to be modeled on a Mayan Temple. Internally, its architecture and design is eclectic. A visionary future is held at bay by size. As with the elevation of Deckard’s apartment, here the only concession to the future—albeit an imagined future—is enormity. Conversely, other architectural possibilities are provided by the transformation of the given; however, the transformation in question is decay. What comes to be juxtaposed within the cosmopolitan urban fabric is decay—the continuity rather than the teleology of decay—and the modern vast. The replicant is seen as a threat within this context. It is as this point that the constraint governing both architecture and film needs to be reintroduced.

Sarychev Peak on Matua Island is one of the most active volcanoes in the Kuril Island chain, northeast of Japan. Astronauts took this photo of an eruption on June 12. The plume appears to be a combination of brown ash and white steam. The vigorously rising plume gives the steam a bubble-like appearance; the surrounding atmosphere has been shoved up by the shock wave of the eruption.

Bolts Sprites - Spirits of Another Sort
High above Earth, in the realm of meteors and noctilucent clouds, a strange and beautiful form of lightning dances at the edge of space. Researchers call the bolts “sprites”; they are red, fleeting, and tend to come in bunches.
See also the Squid-like (Jellyfish) Crop Circles that appeared at Waylands Smithy, nr Kingstone Coombs, Oxfordshire on 29.05.2009 // it is very similar to the Bolts Sprites photographed recently near the coast of southern France. For centuries, man has been transfixed by the spectacular lightning displays of thunderstorms. But after all those years of gazing at the sky, we never realized there was an equally amazing light show going on above the clouds… and similar Crop Formations on the ground! Are those Crop Circles a Heaven’s Mirror of what is happening above in the sky?

Crash mystery tests limits of technology
It weighs less than half a pound, is 4 inches long, and can potentially unlock the mystery of Flight 447.
French navy ships searching the Atlantic Ocean will dip a receiver into the water to pick up signals from the 4-inch “pinger” attached to the airplane’s “black box” recorders possibly resting on the ocean floor.

Brazil: More debris found from Air France jet
Searchers from three continents are focusing on a remote Atlantic Ocean stretch where Air France Flight 447 mysteriously went down in water thousands of feet deep, leaving debris scattered for miles and little hope of finding survivors.
A 23-foot chunk of plane and a 12-mile-long oil slick were found early Wednesday, Brazilian air force spokesman Col. Jorge Amaral said. Rescuers have still found no signs of life.
